Chinnor Good Neighbour Scheme          (August 2017)

We are holding our AGM on Thursday 21st September at the Village Centre, opening at 7:15pm for a 7:30pm start.  The formal part of the meeting will hopefully take no longer than half an hour. This will be followed by a presentation about Chinnor First Responders, plus there will be refreshments (tea, coffee, glass of wine and nibbles).  So please come and join us – find out what we do to help the community and have a chat with the committee and other volunteers.

We have a full committee and all of our elected officers are happy to continue, therefore the need at the moment is for volunteers especially car drivers.  Our volunteers have successfully covered over 765 client requests in the past 12 months.

If you need help in some way and want to know more about what we do, or you’re thinking about volunteering, please contact us on our dedicated telephone number 01844 353500 for more information.  Alternatively, you can find information on our website (www.chinnorgns.co.uk), email us at chinnorgns@gmail.com, or pop into the Parish Council Office and pick up a leaflet.

Chinnor Good Neighbour Scheme          (March 2017)

WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS, ESPECIALLY DRIVERS to help local people get to appointments at dentists, doctors and hospitals.

Would you like to help people in your community but are not able to commit to regular times or days in the week – then you could join us. Volunteers are asked if they are available to help, so they are not tied to regular days or times, ie YOU HELP WHEN IT SUITS YOU. We reimburse drivers for mileage, so all you need to give up is your time, and it really is a pleasure to help those in our community that need us – and you will also meet some lovely people that you might not otherwise see.

We provide friendly help and support in our community (including Aston Rowant, Henton, Kingston Blount, Crowell and Sydenham). We can help with such things as shopping, collecting prescriptions, getting to/from appointments (at doctors, dentists, hospitals, hairdressers, etc), sitting and having a coffee and a chat, or even occasional help in the home or garden. So if you think that we can help just get in touch, and we will help if we can.

If you need help in some way and want to know more about how we can help you, or you’re thinking about volunteering, please contact us on our dedicated telephone number 01844 353500 for more information. Alternatively, you can find information on our website (www.chinnorgns.co.uk), email us at chinnorgns@gmail.com, or pop into the Parish Council Office and pick up a leaflet.

Chinnor Good Neighbour Scheme Celebrates 5th Anniversary          (May 2016)

Chinnor Good Neighbour Scheme (CGNS) has just completed five years of providing help in our community; since we started in 2011 we have been able to help 192 different people in Chinnor (and surrounding villages) in a number of different ways.  In our last full year we have helped our clients 497 times with odd jobs such as shopping, gardening, collecting prescriptions, getting to/from appointments (at doctors, dentists, hospitals, hairdressers, etc), or even just sitting and having a coffee and a chat.

In order to try and make more people aware of the help available we have just launched our website (www.chinnorgns.co.uk) where you can also find more information about our work, how to ask us for help, how to volunteer, who is on our committee, news items, and some useful contact details.  Our thanks go to Chinnor Web Design for their help in developing the website.

We continue to grow both in the areas of our work and the number of people we help, and to date our volunteers have been able to fulfil all requests, apart from one.  Our volunteers have been brilliant in fulfilling so many requests and really enjoy what they do.

We welcome more help, and if you join us you will meet and help some lovely people; best of all you’re not tied to specific days or times, you can do what you want and when it suits you, so you’re not letting people down when you are not available.  As we continue we will need help with various aspects of administration, so you could help us with, for example, looking after documentation, keeping the website up to date, co-ordinating requests for help with volunteers, and promoting the scheme in our community.

So if you would like to join us as a volunteer, or if you need help in some way, please contact us on our dedicated telephone number 01844 353500 for more information.  Whilst our DBS registrations don’t allow us to help children, we can provide help to adults of ALL ages as long as it falls within our remit.  Alternatively, you can find information on our website, email us at chinnorgns@gmail.com, or pop into the Parish Council Office and pick up a leaflet.

Late Spring Groups     (November 2015)

Late Spring is a network of support groups for anyone 60+ who has been bereaved. Sessions provide an opportunity to remember with others who understand and to remember that, in the midst of pain, there is still life left to live.  Age UK Oxfordshire is aiming to create a network of such groups across Oxfordshire that are self-sustaining; at present there are is no such group in the Chinnor area, so if you would like to help set up a group in our area then please contact Ruth Swift (Project manager on 07827 235404, or email ruthswift@ageukoxfordshire.org.uk).
